CSGOlounge.com the skin betting website was included in the original list of websites that Valve had sent their Cease and Desist letter to.
To put matters into perspective, CSGOLounge has been involved in the CSGO Scene since around 2012. They have been one of the primary reasons for the upswing in the number of viewers and the general CSGO market. CSGL has also been involved in quite some shady things such as coercing tournament organisers to provide them with free advertising space. They were also the principal source of skins for teams such as IBP who decided to throw games for skins.
The statement reads as :
“Dear Community of csgolounge and dota2lounge,
“Today we are announcing that we are closing our virtual items betting functionality with immediate effect. Depositing virtual skins and items in order to place a bet is not possible anymore. At the moment we are working on a solution for items withdrawal, please stay tuned for an update on this topic.
“Lounge will continue as an esports entertainment and information platform with new features to be released very soon.
“On behalf of Borewik, founder of CSGOLounge & Dota2Lounge and the entire Lounge Teams”
Dota2lounge which has been operating since 2012 also has been forced to shut down due to the entire gambling fiasco that has been repeatedly covered by esprts.com. The opinion of many are divided on this issue as many believe the viewership number and in turn the sponsorships will dry out. This will affect the entire CSGO Gaming community in general.
What is your opinion on this move by Valve? Do you think CSGLounge
should have been clubbed with pure gambling sites such as CSGOshuffle, CSGOjackpot etc?
