Doublelift takes a break – “The regular season in Spring might as well not exist”

Team Solo Mid star player Double life has announced he will withdraw from the competitive scene for the Summer split.

He mentions in his twitch stream that :

“It doesn’t make any sense to play in the spring split, you make shit money”
“The regular season in Spring might as well not exist”

He also claims that he is NA’s top ADC and that he “will be coming back to summer 100%”, as “is it basically guaranteed to be my (Doublelift’s) spot unless it is someone like Deft who would replace him. This means that Doublelift will be required to try out for the ADC position once again for the Summer split and that replacement is a possibility if TSM find a better ADC to join the ranks.

Doublelift’s TSM statement :

I am not so talented as many believe. The quality that has kept me domestically dominant for five straight seasons isn’t nature, it’s determination. So many of my peers from Season 1 lacked the fire and willpower to be the best, and they have long faded away. When I do something, I put my heart and soul into it, striving to achieve greatness.

That’s why it’s time for a small break. After our convincing performance in Summer, NALCS Spring is considerably less appetizing. Streaming and creating content is something I’ve always wanted to focus on, and it’s the perfect time to do it. I’ll come back if the team needs me – better than before, and better than ever.

This announcement was a huge shock, as Doublelift is undoubtedly one of North America’s best AD carry’s and a huge part of the competitive roster. The decision to take a break for a single split is likely to affect the team’s performance since will they have to adjust to the new members communication differences and play style.

Having a new TSM carry also brings further trouble for the team, as the position will only be available for a single split. This will mean that the newly introduced ADC will either be forced to leave the team, or be benched for an extremely long time and stagnate his future. While having subs are good, as shown by the 2016 World champions SKT fostering easyhoon and blank, it is yet to be utilized to the full in North America.

Note that doublelift has stated that he will be only taking a break for a single split, so it is extremely likely he will return after so don’t be too worried. This will allow time to relax from the stresses of competitive play, which many experience including the recently retirement of Yellow Stars from the competitive play scene and transition to a coaching roll.

Doublelift mentioned in the meantime which he takes his well earned break, he will be streaming more often on twitch and making videos. He will still stay under TSM, similar to Dyrus who streams and makes videos frequently.
