Glaive to play for Astralis during ESL Cologne Major

We read last week that Astralis will be swapping out CajunB for Kjaerbye. There has been more news developing in the Danish roster. Yesterday they announced they will be using Glaive during the ESL Cologne Major to be held in June 2016

Excerpts from the official announcement  :

With the addition of Markus ‘Kjaerbye’ Kjærbye to the team and the transfer of René ‘cajunb’ Borg to Team Dignitas, we have been looking for a fifth player to play with us in the ESL Cologne Major.

Kjærbye, who won the Minor with Team Dignitas is barred from playing the Major with another team, and consequently we had to find a standin that hasn’t played in this Major cycle.

After carefully evaluating the options, the team had only one name left on their paper; Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander from Copenhagen Wolves. The 20 year old has a good name in Denmark, but this is the first time he has had the chance to step into a Tier 1 team. According to team captain Finn ‘Karrigan’ Andersen, Rossander was the perfect fit in a very difficult situation:

I feel confident that gla1ve is the right fit for us. I know that he is good at adapting to new roles and he has a high skill ceiling. He will bring some experience to the table as well and if I know him right, he will do everything in his power, to show that he is still a top class player.

To get the best possible preparation with him, we have decided to take a bootcamp before the Major starts to integrate him in our team and play style. The overall goal for the Major is to secure the Top 8 position and Legends status for the next Major; everything beyond that is just icing on the cake. I hope our fans will understand the situation we are in and help support Lukas and us through the event!

For Rossander the approach came as a surprise but he’s thrilled with the chance to step up and play the Major.

It’s an amazing chance for me. I’ve been to several Majors before, but it has been a while since the last time and both Esport and CounterStrike have evolved amazingly since then. I’m like a kid in a candy shop [laughs]. I’m really honored to be picked out to play with these guys. I have played with Finn [karrigan] before, but I don’t know the other three guys, so I’m just looking forward to playing with them.

Lukas ‘gla1ve’ Rossander

While we would like to thank Rossander for helping us out, a much larger “thank you” goes out to Copenhagen Wolves for allowing us to loan him for the event. We are glad that the talks have been both swift and productive. Our Managing  Partner, Frederik Byskov had this to say about the dealings with Rossander and Copenhagen Wolves:

It’s been a pleasure working alongside Henning from Copenhagen Wolves to secure this two week deal with gla1ve. We’re grateful they are allowing one of their players to help us out when in need. It’s a big chance for gla1ve to show what he can do at the absolute top level and I’m looking very much forward to see what he can bring to the team.

The team will be playing with Rossander after the ECS Finals and are going to be bootcamping with him before the ESL Cologne Major, which is set to take place from the 5th-10th of July. Expect an interview with Rossander to come up within the next week’s time.

What do you think about this move by Astralis? They definitely needed a change, but is this the right move?
