A look at the biggest League of Legends tournament in the world
The 2017 League of Legends World Championship will be held in China, the only major region that has yet to host the world championship event. The prize pool is set to reach the biggest amount ever, as Riot has already contributed over $2,000,000 USD in addition to further contributions in the future from fan contributions through the sale of skins and possibly missions.
It will host a grant total of 24 teams from all around the world where smaller regions such as CIS, Oceania and Turkey for example even have their own dedicated team allocation. While many of those teams from smaller regions will likely place around the lower end, it allows for their regions to be represented in the event.
The tournament is set to bring around millions of viewers daily, where the finals will be expected to bring over 3 million viewers. This’ll likely happen as not only has League grown a considerable amount through the past year, but Riot has also increased connection between broadcasters around the globe, so don’t be surprised if it’s on TV.
