PES has announced a new league edition that will be released later in the year. The new Free league is aimed at getting new players and people interested in the game.
The Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 Trial Edition allows users to play matches with nine fully-licensed clubs and national teams: FC Barcelona, Arsenal FC, Club Atlético de Madrid, Boca Juniors, Club Atlético River Plate, Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, France, and Germany. It also allows full access to the Skills Training section of the game.
“The in-game PES LEAGUE mode has been created to make accessing the Official PES eSport competition much simpler,” the press release says. “[Players] will be able to play against their peers as they vie for a place in this season’s PES World Finals which will be held in June 2017.
Konami hopes to vastly increase its player base with this move. One of the main drawbacks of PES is that its playerbase is massively small despite it being a very popular and well known game in the gaming industry.
“As the PES series continues to go from strength to strength, we [Konami] are exploring a number of ways to build its reputation within the eSports sector,” commented Jonas Lygaard, Senior Director of Brand and Business Development at Konami, regarding the dedicated mode.
Konami is still competing with EA FiFA and will continue to fight for dominance in the lucrative football gaming industry.
